The Association

The collective interests of all players in the greenhouse industry are represented by a volunteer-run organization - Greenhouse Nova Scotia (GNS). It began operations in 1950 under the direction of a volunteer Board of Directors. Today membership in the organization consists of three main groups: Growers, Associates (industry suppliers), and Students. A profile of the membership reveals operations ranging from 800 to 150,000 square feet, as well as provincial and national industry suppliers.

Objectives:

  • To be the main avenue for sourcing production/technological information.
  • To develop innovative approaches to reduce input costs.
  • To ensure relevant, regional research and development.
  • To encourage and promote best management practices which limit environmental impacts.

The Association and the Community

The main focus of the Association is to provide educational programs as well as current production/technological information to its members, assisting them to operate viable businesses producing high quality product, using ecologically sound practices.

The Association provides greenhouse growers with educational opportunities, research data, and opportunities to share information through networking and the quarterly newsletter - the Growers Bench, as well as minimizing costs by participating in bulk purchase programs.
